I feel so lucky living where I do. In just a few days, I have the opportunity to attend the Mom 2.0 Summit in Orlando, FL. I’m super excited to attend, but as a “dad blogger” attending a mom conference, I’m not exactly sure what I’m getting myself into.

I like to plan. I’m a planner. I can’t really go into anything cold, without thinking it through beforehand, so I’m already trying to figure out what I want to get out of this conference. Oh, did I mention I’m an introverted dad?

Yeah, so I have that going for me. An introverted dad blogger in a sea of moms. What was I thinking? Anyway, here are my top 10 goals for what I’d like to do at the 2017 Mom 2.0 Summit.

#10 – I hope to gain some more mom perspective from the 2017 Mom 2.0 Summit.

Just last week I attended an awards ceremony for a colleague that received a well-deserved distinction from her colleagues and peers in public relations.

In her acceptance speech, she had a very interesting point about perspective. What you see, or what your perspective is, depends on where you are and where you’ve been. Your perspective isn’t wrong; it’s just different.

I hope to have new perspectives after attending Mom 2.0 this year. I’m really looking forward to seeing moms and mommy bloggers from somewhere other than my previous arms-length view.

#9 – I hope to take some really cool photos at the 2017 Mom 2.0 Summit.

You know this one was coming. As a photography blogger, I can’t wait to take some really cool photos at the conference. Hopefully being a shutter bug isn’t frowned upon at Mom 2.0. I’ll have my best camera on my hip at all times, that’s for sure.

I’m especially excited to attend the Iris Awards ceremony to see who and what type of bloggers and content creators are honored this year.

#8 – I hope to connect with a few new mom blogger friends.

And so begins the scary territory for my goals for Mom 2.0. I hope to break out of my shell a bit. I’m not sure if all introverted bloggers are like this, but the thing about me when it comes to conferences is that I have this strong desire to talk to people, and I really can talk. I’m just afraid of breaking the ice.

I know, there are courses, books, videos and blogs out there on how to up your networking game. I’m not there yet.

I’m hoping that if I make it a specific goal to connect with at least two mom bloggers and reach out to them after the conference I’ll consider it a networking success for me.

#7 – I hope to have at least 5 conversations with strangers on the first day of Mom 2.0.

Building on goal number 8, I can’t meet new people if I don’t have conversations with them. I have a specific goal to speak to five perfect strangers on the first day of the conference.

I’m not exactly sure how just yet. Maybe I swallow my pride and just walk up to five people and introduce myself. I’m hoping there will be a few others there that look just like me – looking to connect with someone, but not sure how to begin.

#6 – I hope to learn more about creating content that appeals to moms.

It’s time to dig into some semi-professional goals for attending the conference this year. The first goal I have in this area is around content creation.

Women and moms are almost always a key target demographic for brands. What better way to figure out what’s important to moms and women than to attend a conference full of that target demographic?

#5 – I hope to learn a few things from the top mom bloggers at the conference.

From a blogging perspective, learning from others’ success is one of the best ways to realize your own success. You don’t have to copy them. You can still do your own thing.

Learning from what others have tried and succeeded or failed at can be a tremendous help for any blogger or creator.

#4 – I hope to see where dad bloggers fit in to the parenting blog equation.

I wrote a post a while ago I titled, “Are mom blogs leaving dad in the dust?“. I was part of a small but growing dad blogger movement, but it still seemed like moms dominated the parenting blogger space.

Since that post, I’ve joined a pretty substantial dad blogger Facebook group. I’ve considered attending the Dad 2.0 Summit (hopefully next year). I’ve also met more and more dad bloggers trying to figure out where they fit in.

I hope attending Mom 2.0 sheds some light on where we, dads, fit into the parenting blog equation.

#3 – I hope to learn more about what motivates moms and mom bloggers.

I know there are likely different answers for each blogger to the question of, “What motivates you to blog?”. But I’d really like to learn more from other creators and influencers about why they do what they do.

From the love of “creating” to financial considerations, what keeps them going? Have they considered quitting? Do they feel like it’s a labor of love or a “job” (or somewhere in between)? Can you realize financial success just doing it on the side?

I have so many questions I’d like to have answered at Mom 2.0 this year.

#2 – I hope to learn more about how and why brands work with mom bloggers.

On the other side of the coin, what motivates brands to work with mom bloggers? How does a brand choose a good fit – are there specific criteria or is it just as often a gut check choice?

I know ROI is a huge motivator for brands, but when working with bloggers and influencers, the people the brand works with ultimately becomes part of that brand’s experience. Bloggers and influencers can have a big impact on the perception of the brand and I’d like to know more about how and why brands work with mom bloggers at Mom 2.0.

#1 – I hope to hear some success stories of brands working with bloggers.

Learning about (and hoping to repeat) success stories is a huge goal of mine from the 2017 Mom 2.0 Summit. I’ve read stories about incredibly successful engagements between blogs and brands. Heck, I even know a few dads that are realizing great success.

I want to hear as many stories as I can about engagements that brands and influencers felt were successful and why they thought so.
