The word lemur derives from the word lemures from Roman mythology and was first used to describe a slender loris due to its nocturnal habits and slow pace, but was later applied to the primates on Madagascar.

What is Photolemur 3?

And what makes it different than other photo editors on the market?

I personally first learned of the photo editing app Photolemur (af) a few months ago. Quite frankly, the first thought that popped into my head was, "Why did they choose to name their app Photolemur, of all things?"

Now, this is just me surmising, but the reason why I put the description of a lemur above (from Wikipedia) is because I think it may contain hints about why they named the app after this animal.

Photolemur 3 is a very light-weight (i.e. "slender") application that takes all of the hassle out of photo editing. And when I say all I mean ALL of the hassle.

Photolemur 3 is drag-and-drop simple to use and it results in great looking edited photos with next to no effort.

What Photolemur 3 is not is a full-featured photo editor. That's not what this app is trying to be at all. Simplicity, ease of use and speed appear to be the primary focal points, and if you're a family travel blogger like me, a tool that edits photos quickly, with little effort on my part, can be one of your best friends.

This Photolemur 3 review focuses on the Mac version.

We are a Mac family, so this review will focus on a review of Photolemur 3 for Mac. Photolemur 3 also works on Windows machines as well, so no matter which you prefer, you can take advantage of this application for photo editing.

What don't I like about Photolemur 3?

If there's one thing I've learned over the past six or so years of being a semi-pro photographer and photo blogger is that there is no such thing as a perfect photo editing app. Great photos are so subjective, and what you consider a great photo edit I may consider garbage. But that's okay! That's what makes photo editing so unique to us as individuals. There are a few minor things below that I didn't really care for in Photolemur 3.

I don't like the sounds.

Yep, that's right. I don't like the sounds Photolemur 3 makes. I also don't like that the sounds are turned on by default. I guess I get it in a way - "feedback" to the user can be helpful, but I really prefer to turn the sounds off when editing.

Disabling sounds in Photolemur 3 is easy. Simply click the "Settings" menu (in Mac) and choose "Disable Sounds".

I don't like the export feature on Photolemur 3.

More specifically, when editing more than one photo at a time, I don't like the export feature. By default, photos dragged into Photolemur 3 for editing get exported with the same file name. You'd have to browse to locate the same folder if you wanted to place them in the same location.

My issue is that I usually don't want to overwrite the original files, and exporting multiple files at a time doesn't allow to you re-name your files on export. So basically you're forced to overwrite if you save to the same folder.

In my opinion, the sounds in Photolemur 3 are really unnecessary and distracting.

What are the main features of Photolemur 3?

Having already gotten the "bad" stuff out of the way and what I don't like about Photolemur 3, there are a lot of really great features in this photo editing app. Below is a run-down of all the stuff I do like about this photo editing app and what's included in the new version 3.0.

What sets Photolemur 3 apart from other photo editors?

There are a ton of photo editors out there and available on the market today. Each does something pretty well, in my experience. No photo editing app does everything well, though. Here are the things I really appreciate about Photolemur 3.

  • Photolemur is the world’s first fully automated solution for creating perfect photos.
  • Photolemur works on Mac and PC, automatically analyzing and perfecting your images.
  • Photolemur 3 and doesn’t require any manual involvement. Just drag and drop your images to see results.
  • Photolemur is powered by artificial intelligence that recognizes objects, faces, trees, sky, foliage and more.
  • Photolemur 3's AI is able to distinguish between portraits, landscapes and macro photographs, and applies the appropriate enhancements for each type of image.
  • Photolemur 3.0 includes the world's first fully automatic processing and retouching of faces: skin smoothing, removing skin defects, smart eye enlargement and hair structure.
  • Photolemur 3 can enhance a large number of photos simultaneously: more than 200 images at the same time, speeding up your image editing workflow.

Is Photolemur easy to use?

Ease of use is really the biggest feature in Photolemur 3. Like I said, there are a ton of powerful photo editors that provide you with control over every aspect of your photo.

That is not Photolemur.

Photolemur's "claim to fame" is that its so hands-off and super simple it really doesn't require a professional photographer or photo editor to use.

This makes Photolemur extremely efficient at batch photo editing. If you just came home from a trip and you've got hundreds, or even thousands of photos you need to edit, you really should consider giving Photolemur 3 a try.

Here are the steps to edit 200 photos in Photolemur 3:

  1. Download your photos to your computer.
  2. Open Photolemur 3.
  3. Drag and drop you photos from your computer's folder into the Photolemur 3 app window.
  4. Export your edited photos back to your computer.

That's it! Only four steps and you've edited up to 200 photos in just a few minutes.

Photolemur 3 Unofficial FAQ

Below are a few common questions I've come across when using and researching the Photolemur 3 photo editing application. These aren't the "official" FAQ, but hopefully they will answer some of the most common questions out there.

A: Yes! Photolemur 3 photo editing software that is compatible with both Mac and Windows.

A: I am just guessing here, I think Photolemur was named because of it's "slender" app approach. Photolemur 3 is a very light-weight (i.e. "slender") application that takes all of the hassle out of photo editing. And when I say all I mean ALL of the hassle.

What do you think? Have you used Photolemur before in the past? What did you think of it? Have you tried the newest version?
